The song selected is What Child is This by Spektakulatius. This song was chosen not only because of the season it would be worked on, but because it had a different time signature and feel that I was not use to working with.

Groove Variation
A rhythm change was done as a variation. It was a challenge and fun to play with. Halftime fit the best with this song. The time signature 3/4 provided a challenge when it came to deciding and creating a different groove.

Sound Effect Variation
This is my inspiration for the sound design in this song. Normally during Christmas time, the theme of bells seems to be everywhere. I wanted to add that feeling to song. However, I didn’t want a traditional bell sound. I used the Vacuum instrument plug-in in Pro Tools. The sound I wanted needed to have a slow decay and a soft attack. I ended up with a synth that would also add a little more low-end to the song. I felt that keeping the notes and rhythm like what was already there would benefit the song the most.

Percussion Variation
For the live session it was just me who was the musician. I have a hand drum that I used to make more percussion presence. A pillow was also used to add more low-end and texture to the drum. I used a dynamic microphone, placed facing the body of the drum, to capture the hand tapping on the drum. Then, a condenser microphone, placed near the face of the drum, was used to capture the hand hit on the face.
